Giving evidence can be an anxiety provoking experience and yet professionals from all disciplines are now more frequently having to attend court as witnesses. Few however, receive training on how to give evidence.
Good evidence is essential to success in a court case. Too many cases are lost in circumstances where legal arguments are good but the supporting evidence is poor. This not only incurs huge financial losses but can also severely affect staff morale.
This one-day course presents a practical guide to understanding court proceedings and the skills necessary to be an effective witness. Enhancing witness performance, thereby increasing their confidence and credibility, which maximises the likelihood of a successful result in court.
This intensive and highly practical day provides a real experiential learning opportunity facilitated by Charles Holt a freelance advocate for both the local authority and private firms. Charles has had a comprehensive legal career undertaking most aspects of both criminal and civil proceedings. For the last ten years, as a solicitor and barrister, he has concentrated on criminal work undertaking both prosecuting and defence advocacy in Magistrates Courts, Crown Courts and Courts Martial. Whilst working part-time for a Local Authority he has developed an expertise in the defence and prosecution of ASBO cases and has also prosecuted other aspects of ASB work including closure orders and injunctions under the Local Government Act.
